Black Water brings together intuitive and deeply personal drawings from 2005 alongside recent works, creating a dialogue between past and present. The opportunity to present the exhibition in a pop-up format, within a more spontaneous framework, allowed the artist to open old drawers and combine quick, expressive drawings with a more mature and developed visual language.
The title Black Water refers to spilled ink, to shimmering reflections of light that repeatedly emerge throughout the works, and to murky water rising when a blockage is released—a metaphor for overwhelming emotion and for material that has waited a long time to reveal itself.
The close relationship between the artist and curator, Osnat Yahali Serbagili—his studio partner—allowed memories to resurface and enabled works that had never before been exhibited to find their way onto the gallery walls.
