In this exhibition, Anat Zavadsky presents digital works, a sound piece, and several objects. Her works combine editing and layering, merging multiple strata from diverse sources and worlds of content. The original imagery is drawn from a variety of sources: photographs, drawings and sketches made by the artist herself, as well as ready-made images. Together, these elements form magical, dense, enigmatic, and psychedelic collages/compositions.
The works in the exhibition are drawn from four different series, each of which expands Zavadsky’s unique perspective on a journey of healing and learning she underwent in Peru with various traditional shamanic healers. Her approach is subjective—resembling an imaginary, dreamlike, and hallucinatory vision—while at the same time offering a universal perspective, a kind of mythology and iconographic system. This visual language emerges through the processing and internalization of sensations, insights, knowledge, images, and fragments of memories gathered from experiences the artist has undergone at different points over the past decade.
