Boni Gala’s exhibition Sense of Possibility presents a wide range of works, including drawing, sculpture, and works that move between media.
Her drawing practice follows a dream or a familiar memory that seems recognizable yet is not grounded in reality. Through movement, she creates a broad visual field of traces and subtle occurrences that hover on the threshold of stillness. At times, the drawing follows processes of dissolution and disappearance. Stains, plant husks, and other organic remnants become part of the visual lexicon from which the image emerges.
These forms are measured through grids, lines, and systems of observation. The boundaries between the accidental and the intentional become blurred, generating unusual encounters and unexpected sensitivities.
In some of her earlier works, Gala chose to document the tools of drawing and making. The miniature scale of these works requires close attention and invites the viewer into the intimate space of creation. Tools from the carpenter’s workshop are transformed, shifting between masculine and feminine associations, between rough, heavy instruments and the delicate labor through which acts of creation, repair, and renewal take place.
